The Opportunity:

As the Director of Data Science at Norstella, you will establish the strategic vision for our data science capabilities and manage a talented team of data scientists and engineers. As both a technical expert and a people-oriented leader, you’ll cultivate talent, shape organizational culture, and deliver AI-driven solutions that significantly impact patient access.

  • Define and implement the data science strategy in partnership with product, engineering, and executive teams to prioritize project roadmaps.

  • Lead, mentor, and expand a team of data scientists and ML engineers, nurturing a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

  • Recruit top-tier talent and create comprehensive career development pathways within the organization.

  • Promote the adoption of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Large Language Model (LLM) architectures, developing reference frameworks for their use.

  • Work with product leadership to identify and prioritize impactful projects that enhance our offerings.

  • Ensure successful delivery of AI-enabled microservices with content and engineering teams.

  • Establish and advance engineering standards and best practices for scalable, high-performance AI systems.

  • Stay updated on AI/ML research, delivering insights and presentations to stakeholders about emerging trends.

  • Collaborate across functions to operationalize data science solutions, ensuring they drive measurable business outcomes.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10+ years of experience in developing and deploying AI/ML applications and delivering scaled data solutions.

  • Proven leadership and management experience within data science teams, including hiring and talent development.

  • Success in building and scaling high-performing teams with structured growth programs.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in Generative AI, LLMs, Agentic AI, and advanced NLP techniques.

  • Experience in designing LLM applications, including prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in Python and core data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and PyTorch/TensorFlow.

  • Strong foundational knowledge in computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and computational complexity.

  • Experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems in Agile environments.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science with research focus in AI/ML and a publication record in reputable venues.

  • Experience in the healthcare or life sciences sector, specifically with AI in pharmaceutical or market access data.

  • Hands-on familiarity with AWS ML services like SageMaker and Lambda.

  • Knowledge of knowledge graphs, structured reasoning, and hybrid retrieval architectures.

  • Prior Director-level experience in a dynamic data-driven environment.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $225,000 to $275,000, with offers typically made below the top of the range, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and relevant certifications. A discretionary bonus is also available.
